What chances do the individual parties have in the upcoming elections for the National Council and which coalition variants are possible? “Krone” domestic policy journalist Petja Mladenova analyzes the current situation in Austrian domestic policy in an interview with Jürgen Winterleitner on krone.tv.
Despite the FPÖ’s current lead in the polls, according to Mladenova, the actual election results are highly dependent on the election campaign. She sees the ÖVP getting closer to the FPÖ voter clientele. Mladenova thinks that ÖVP leader Nehammer will want to cover the ÖVP’s right flank – not least in his speech at the end of January – with a clear message to FPÖ voters: “If Kickl is too extreme for you, you can join join us.”
Nehammer seeks a duel with Kickl
According to the domestic policy expert of the “Krone”, the SPÖ appears united externally, but is internally criticized for its course. Despite the expected loss of votes, the ÖVP will try to position itself as a stable force and set up a duel between Nehammer and Kickl. According to Mladenova, the motive of many FPÖ voters is clear: “It is more dissatisfaction because there is not so much content.”
Black-green alienation
The Greens have implemented a lot in the field of climate protection during the last term of government and made a lot of progress, says Petja Mladenova. Nevertheless, the black coalition partner is now completely alienated from each other. The Minister of Green Environment, Leonore Gewessler, has “essentially filled the country with subsidies. “I don’t know if that’s the right thing to do,” analyzes the “Krone” journalist. “She also received a lot for the railway expansion. The Greens can be happy with that.’ The Greens are criticized for giving in too much on migration, says Mladenova: “There are many Greens who didn’t think that was a good thing.”
