The candidate for lehendakari of Elkarrekin Podemos, Miren Gorrotxategi, confirms that, as long as there is time, it is “possible” that Sumar and Podemos Euskadi will fight as a coalition in the elections to the Basque Parliament.
After a 16-year-old boy was injured by a ball from the Ertzaintza in Tolosa last weekend, Miren Gorrotxategi has called for a review of the use of foam balls. According to the spokesperson for Elkarrekin Podemos-IU, they cannot be used further because they pose ‘too much risk’. In this sense, he believes that we must influence the memory of Iñigo Cabacas.
The also candidate for lehendakari of Elkarrekin Podemos does not rule out the possibility of representing a larger political space in the next elections to the Basque Parliament. According to him, there is still time until the deadline for registering candidacies expires and it is therefore possible that Podemos and Sumar will participate in the elections together. However, in an interview with Euskadi Irratia, he acknowledged that Sumar has closed that door so far. If that were to happen, Gorrotxategi has indicated they would consider that option, but “for now they have closed the door on us.”
Gorrotxategi is committed to a non-independence that remains ‘as strong as possible’. When asked about the possibility of participating with Alianza Verde, led by Juan López de Uralde, she acknowledged that there are possibilities because they share the same space.
Elkarrekin Podemos says that the election nomination will take place in April and that the Basque parliament will therefore be dissolved within a two-week period.
On the other hand, he sees more opportunities than ever for a change in the cycle. Gorrotxategi has stated that Elkarrekin Podemos would support a left-wing government, but that it would not be left-wing if the PNV were present.
