From March 8, he will take up the position hitherto held by Imanol Pradales, who left the position to run for Lehendakari in the April 21 elections. Alzaga is currently general director of the Port Authority of Bilbao.
The General Manager of the Port Authority of Bilbao, Carlos Alzaga will become the new provincial deputy for infrastructure and territorial development of Bizkaia replacing Imanol Pradales, PNV candidate for lehendakari.
As reported by the Provincial Council on Friday, Alzaga will take office on March 8 and in the meantime the department will be temporarily taken over by the regional deputy for Economic Promotion, Ainara Basurko.
Alzaga will leave both the management of the Port of Bilbao and the position of Dean of the College of Civil Engineering, Canals and Ports of Euskadi.
The new deputy for Infrastructure, born in Amorebieta in 1964, is a civil engineer from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and a graduate in Senior Business Management from the IESE of the University of Navarra.
Before joining the Port of Bilbao, he was project manager at Sener, construction manager at Dragados y Construcciones and head of the territorial service of the ports of Bizkaia of the Basque government.
The Provincial Council has emphasized that he is a ‘professional of proven value’.
