EH Bildu has accused him of “underestimating the mechanisms” used in Scotland or Quebec and has reached out to him to “build a ground on which to lay the foundations of this city as a nation”.

The lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, has defended that the sovereign processes “must be guaranteed within the European Union”alongside the rest of the mechanisms launched in other places like Scotland or Quebec.
This is how the Lehendakari responded to a question from EH Bildu, in which the pro-sovereignty coalition accused him of “disparaging the rights of this people and only supporting the government format”.
According to Maddalen Iriarte, there is no need to adapt the mechanism proposed by the lehendakari, and he has given the Scottish referendum as an example, “in which the doors of Brussels were open.
In this sense, Iriarte has defended that “to build this city as a nationand guarantee material and political sovereignty, is needed to build a shared floor, without leaving anyone aside and without accepting anyone’s veto. We are ready,” he said.
De Lehendakari, for his part, stressed that “the decisions of the Member States and institutions, as well as parliaments, must be guaranteed within the European Union”.
In this sense, he has said that the mechanisms that gave rise to the processes in Quebec or Scotland “are not alone” “The goal is to open doors for mutual understanding.”
“We are part of the EU and those who shout the loudest do not go further, but those who agree more. Progress comes from creating spaces for governance, agreement and cooperation. And this is our way: determination in the principles , clarity in the objectives and flexibility in the paths,” he added.
