The entry ban against an ÖVP mayor completely turns municipal politics upside down. The deadline begins
The case of the mayor of Rudersdorf spreads widely. As reported, following a sensational argument with his wife at the inn on Holy Saturday, police have banned him from entering or approaching him. As much as the local ÖVP leader regrets the incident, after careful consideration he had no choice but to announce his resignation.
New elections within six weeks
“The mayor called me on Thursday evening and informed me of his decision,” confirms deputy mayor David Venus (SPÖ). As soon as the withdrawal has been made in writing, the declaration will be submitted to the municipality. According to the ordinance, the state government must announce the election of a new local leader within six weeks. “There must be at least twelve weeks between the deadline and election day,” it says.

The FPÖ’s criticism of the ÖVP for “covering up” the matter is rejected in the strongest possible terms: “We handled the matter transparently and without delay. The result is dismissal.”
Another politician in the crosshairs
In the course of the heated debate, another case in southern Burgenland was reopened. In this case, an entry ban had already been issued in January against a deputy mayor of the SPÖ. Divorce proceedings are underway. “Claims that the man was banned from entering the building several times are not true,” state police clarified after false reports.
Vice mayor retires
A statement from the SPÖ said that, according to the deputy mayor involved, the case concerns ongoing divorce proceedings in which complaints have unfortunately been received from both sides. There are therefore also issues that have not yet been definitively clarified. To protect the family, the affected deputy mayor is withdrawing from local politics with immediate effect.
