How do we want to overcome crises and disasters together in the future? During the first federal state network meeting in Bergisel in Innsbruck, there were five concrete resolutions. But you’re not really responsible. . .
How can we prepare together for storms, floods, forest fires, heat waves and other natural events? To answer this question, representatives of all states accepted the invitation of the Tyrolean State Security Council Astrid Mair (ÖVP) to Bergisel.
Mair: “The same task for all of us”
It is probably a coincidence that every weekend there are some challenges lurking for the emergency services. Because heavy rain is forecast across the board, especially on Friday.
“The topography of the states may be different. However, our task to prepare ourselves as best as possible for crises and disasters is the same,” Mair emphasizes.
What was decided in Innsbruck
Five decisions were made and the average citizen would get the most out of the project “AT Alert”Please note: Warnings reach everyone whose mobile phone is logged in to a specific area – ideal for example during heavy weather fronts. The technically complex system must be ready for use in the autumn. Further key points or requirements for the federal government:
- VOST-AT: In case of emergency, messages from social networks are evaluated by the operational staff to form a situation report. The name is derived from “Virtual Operations Support Teams”. Such teams are already deployed in Germany for large-scale operations – such as large-scale flood scenarios.
- Weather radar network: “We need four to five additional stations in Austria,” demands Carinthian LR Daniel Fellner. Costs: approximately four million euros. There is still potential for optimization of radar coverage in Austria to provide extended severe weather warnings.
- Forest fires: Emergency services should no longer be compensated on the basis of a fixed rate, but on the basis of their costs. In concrete terms, the costs of the operating resources actually used and the necessary operationally relevant catering must be fully reimbursed.
- Education: Synergies are being sought in crisis management training. Interested parties should also be able to take courses in other states.
