Similarly, the union has warned the Lehendakari that as long as the social problems persist, the union will continue its efforts for mobilisation.
ELA General Secretary Mitxel Lakuntza has been transferred to the lehendakari. Imanol Pradaleshis concern because the first decisions of the new Basque government “They rule out structural changes.”
Lakuntza, together with the Deputy Secretary-General, Amaia Munoawas the first of the four major unions to participate in the round opened by the Lehendakari. The meeting represents a meeting between the first Basque union and a lehendakari after more than ten years without relations with the previous one, Iñigo Urkullu.
ELA has considered Pradales’ willingness to dialogue as positive and has shown its willingness to maintain a bilateral relationship with the Lehendakari, but has recalled that what is really decisive are the decisions and measures that the government must take. For this reason, ELA has taken advantage of the meeting to hand over to Pradales a document with concrete measures in 15 areas of action of the Basque Government, with which “the will of the executive to change can be measured”, assured Lakuntza after the meeting.
For now, Lakuntza and Muñoa have expressed their concerns about the coalition agreement between PSE and PNV, which lacks concrete measures that demonstrate a “real will to change” in the main lines of action of previous leaders. Furthermore, they have indicated that they disagree with the most important decision taken by the executive branch so far: the budget guideline for next year, which aims for a zero deficit, on a clear continuous direction.
Finally, ELA also informed the Lehendakari that to the extent that the problems resulting from the lack of a social policy persist (deterioration of public services, process of impoverishment, problems in accessing housing, insecurity about employment, etc.), the union will continue to focus on the organization of the working class and the mobilization.
