Almost exactly a month before the deadline and yet much later than expected, the black-green federal government agreed to nominate ÖVP Finance Minister Magnus Brunner for the red-white-red ticket for EU commissioner. A basic agreement was reportedly reached in a final round of negotiations on Tuesday evening. Green Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler slept on it again and finally gave the green thumbs up on Wednesday morning.
