Harris wants second debate – Trump: ‘I’ve got two behind me, it’s too late’

Date:

US presidential candidate Kamala Harris has once again challenged her rival Donald Trump to a new TV duel. But the Republican is brushing it off.

The 78-year-old explained it during a campaign appearance in North Carolina on Saturday: “She was in a debate. I’ve got two behind me. It’s too late for more debate. In many ways I’d like to, but it’s too late.”

Shortly after her first televised debate with Trump on September 10, Harris had challenged her Republican rival to a second duel — which the former president declined. “There will be no third debate,” Trump declared at the time on his online platform Truth Social — counting not only his duel with Harris, but also the one with President Joe Biden on June 27, which had triggered a heated debate over the sitting president’s mental state. As a result, Biden decided not to run again.

According to polls and the majority of political commentators, Harris won the first debate against Trump. She put the Republican on the defensive with numerous pointed attacks. In a snap CNN poll, 63 percent of respondents saw her as the winner, compared to 37 percent for Trump. However, the ex-president claimed that he won the televised debate.

Harris: “Voters deserve a second duel”
“It would be unprecedented in modern history if there were only one debate in a presidential election,” Harris’ campaign argues, arguing that voters deserve another televised duel to get a sense of the “competing visions for America.”
