“Candy” without green – That’s what Kogler says about Nehammer’s red card

Date:

Karl Nehammer finally shows his previous coalition partner Werner Kogler the red card. Because with the invitation to NEOS, one thing is clear: the candy coalition will be negotiated without green participation. The Green Party leader is now warning that “important future concerns” could be neglected.

Chancellor Nehammer emphasized on Tuesday evening at a joint press conference with SPÖ leader Andreas Babler: “The Greens are no longer an option for the formation of a new government.” The former coalition partner responded positively constructively. “May negotiations proceed constructively and quickly in these uncertain times in the interests of the Republic and its people. I sincerely hope that Karl Nehammer, Andi Babler and Beate Meinl-Reisinger succeed,” Green Party leader Werner Kogler wrote on X.

At the same time, the current Vice Chancellor warned that “important future concerns are being neglected.” These include Kogler’s “socially just and economically sensible” climate protections, strengthening the independent judiciary and key social concerns – such as combating child poverty and promoting equality. The Greens would “accept the role of constructive opposition with a sense of responsibility”. He promised that they would follow government work “with a keen eye.”

A new era for the Greens
The Greens will only be part of the federal government for a few weeks. Then a new era begins for Kogler’s forces, as they will soon have no coalition government responsibility, either at the federal or state level. A turning point for the eco party.
