Massively reducing government spending is one of the main objectives of newly-elected US President Donald Trump. He wants to set a good example – and start with himself.
“I’m giving up a lot of money,” Trump announced in an interview with the TV channel NBC. During his second term, he wants to give up his salary as head of state and the pension to which he is entitled. “I will not accept the salary,” assured the 78-year-old. In principle, he would be entitled to a salary of 400,000 dollars (about 380,000 euros) per year.
He could be the first American president to make such compromises, he continued to NBC — “except maybe George Washington.”
No pay during the first term
By the way, Trump did not accept a presidential salary during his first term. Instead, he donated the money to various institutions. For example, the protection of national parks was close to his heart.
When asked exactly how his retirement would work out, the future head of state was not sure. “You accepted it, didn’t you?” asked NBC journalist Kristen Welker. “I don’t think so,” Trump said in surprise. “I don’t think I’ve accepted anything.” He certainly doesn’t plan to.
However, the story has a catch for the Republican: “By the way, I didn’t get any recognition for it, but that’s okay…”
Jill Biden for his ‘Fight, Fight, Fight’ perfume
Trump wants to make money with the new scent ‘Fight, Fight, Fight’, which is suitable for both men and women. He launched this to commemorate his election victory. The model for the new scented water is none other than the wife of his political opponent Jill Biden.
Trump and Jill Biden had a warm conversation at the reopening of Notre Dame in Paris. “She couldn’t have been nicer,” the 78-year-old enthuses. A photo taken is now used for advertising. The slogan for the product: “A scent your enemies cannot resist.” A bottle of “Fight, Fight, Fight” starts at $200. The target audience: “Patriots who never give up, like President Trump.”
