Trudeau resigns – Trump: Canada should merge with the US

Date:

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation on Monday (see video above). Future US President Donald Trump then suggested that Canada should merge with the US. Then there would be no more tariffs and taxes would drop significantly.

Trump wrote this on Monday in his online service Truth Social. “Together – what a great nation that would be.” At the end of November, the politician announced that he would impose a 25 percent tariff on imports from Canada.

After meeting with Trudeau at his private home in Florida, the right-wing populist joked that he had dinner with a governor. In the US, this is the official title for the heads of government of individual states. Trump said Canada should become the 51st U.S. state if it cannot absorb the increased tariffs. His expansion plans go even further: he has already stated that he wants to buy the Danish island of Greenland and bring the Panama Canal under his control.

What happens after discharge?
Canada is the largest country in the world in terms of area and has about 40 million inhabitants. As reported, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation as Liberal leader and head of government on Monday. He wants to remain in office until there is clarity about the successor.

How and when his party will appoint a successor internally remained unclear. The next regular parliamentary elections would take place in the fall, but a vote of no confidence could force new elections. An emergency meeting of the liberal parliamentary group is scheduled for Wednesday.

Trudeau has faced repeated public calls to resign due to poor polling. Many people accuse him of not keeping his promises. For example, prices have risen too much and there is not enough living space in the country.
