The United States and China are trying to get a rapprochement in the customs law dispute. US President Donald Trump praised the start of customs talks with China in Geneva as a “full restart”. The Republican wrote. The trade interviews are continued in Switzerland.
Trump described the meeting with the representatives from China as “very good” and emphasized that great progress was made, but gave no details in terms of content.
“We would like to open China for American companies – for both China and the US,” he wrote on his social social platform (see below).
Conversations in Geneva
The American Minister of Finance Scott Bessent and the American commercial officer Jamieson Greer came again on Sunday with the Chinese vice head of the government that he is responsible for trade. On Saturday the conversations took place in the residence of the Swiss UN ambassador in Geneva.
The trade discussions in Geneva are the first at this level since the enormous rates of Trump. The US president has occupied the majority of Chinese imports with a duty of 145 percent. China responded to many American goods with 125 percent inch.
Before the conversations in Geneva, Trump had demonstrated that he was ready to compromise and correctly called an 80 percent customs rate for China. His spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, however, emphasized that Beijing also had to be ready for concessions because Washington would not unilaterally lower the rates. Beijing had repeatedly insisted that the United States should first remove its rates.
