Fiscal case in focus – VP-U-Committee: Wolf and Schelling loaded

Date:

The parliamentary inquiry committee ÖVP continues on Wednesday with prominent information sources: Entrepreneur Siegfried Wolf has promised to come after the threat of a fine. Most of all, he has to answer questions about an illegal tax cut for him. Wolf had intervened – ultimately in vain – with the Treasury Department for a tax arrears. Former Finance Minister Hans-Jörg Schelling (ÖVP) testified after him on the same subject.

The key figure in the tax case involving Wolf is once again the former general secretary and board member of the state investment company ÖBAG. As so often, his chats, which had been seized by the economic and corruption prosecutor’s office, had sparked investigations. In it he writes to Schelling about Wolf: “Today we reached an agreement with Sigi. 75:25. He pays between 7 and 8 million euros.

It is expected that Wolf’s gifts to the party will also be an issue on the first day of the investigation. In any case, both informants – Wolf and then Schelling – agreed. The head of the legal group in Alexander Van der Bellen’s presidential office, Georg Frölichsthal, and the head of the financial prosecutor, Wolfgang Peschorn, have been invited for Thursday.
