Alcaraz said goodbye to Cincinnati in cruel fashion after an epic battle

Date:

Carlos Alcaraz bid an early farewell this Saturday at the Cincinnati Masters 1000. The Murcian fell in the quarterfinals against the British Cameron Norrie 7-6 (4), 6-7 (4), 6-4 after an epic battle of more than three hours in which he took control of the match after coming back from a seemingly impossible second set.

The first set was decided on a tiebreak after neither of them could convert the break balls (two of the British, four of the Spanish) that they had.

In the tiebreaker Norrie showed more reliability and Alcaraz took advantage of mistakes on key points to close out 7-4.

the second set started with a dominant Alcaraz but could not identify the break balls. Twice, in the first and third games, he saw Norrie take him from 0-40 to go up 2-1.

As usually happens in these cases, the forgiver pays it and, in the next game, the Murcian is out of service.. Norrie followed with a 4-1 that seemed to kill the game, but there we saw Alcaraz at his best again.

The world number 4 showed his best tennis and, pushed by a loyal public, recovered the break to level at 4. The equality continued until the tiebreak where, after signing one of the best points of the year, Carlitos managed to break his rival and force the third sleeve.

});

Everything seems to be upside down for the Spanish player, who achieved a fast break that allowed him to dominate the game with authoritybut Norrie would not give his arm to be twisted.

The Briton took advantage of an error-filled service game by Alcaraz to level the set and, later, achieve another psychological break with 4-4 in a game in which the Murcian raised 0-40.

At 5-4 Norrie was not forgiven and closed out a real game that puts him in the semifinals, where he will face the great sensation of the tournament: Borna Coric. The Croatian, Rafa Nadal’s executioner, had no trouble beating Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime in the doubles 6-4 and will look to continue making history on Saturday (00:00).

Alcaraz, for his part, is already set for the US Openwhere from August 29 he will attempt to attack his first Grand Slam and, who knows, at number 1 in the ATP.
