The midfielder of Elche Gerard Gumbau said his team, under the competition, would be “dead” if they failed to win the next two games before the break in the competition against Valladolid and the Girona.
The Catalan player admitted, in a press conference, that the locker room is “disgusted” with the situation, but he hopes that the union that exists in the group will give them the strength to reverse it. “We have to get up as it is and gather energy to push forward,” he reiterated.
The Catalan described the defeat against Getafe as “very difficult”, as it means the possibility of being hooked again in the fight for survival. “There is no choice but to get up because otherwise it will be too long. You have to work hard to win a game now because it is something we all have to hope for,” he argued.
Gumbau assured that neither the team nor the players are “very different from last year, when we seemed to eat the world in an incredible second round.”
“We weren’t that good before, nor are we so bad now. I believe in hard work, because no one has won titles here,” the player commented, saying that he accepted all the criticism from the fans. “After 12 games without winning, it’s the most normal thing. I feel very bad for the fans, who are making a huge effort. But they come out of this with unity, it’s not a cliché,” he reflected.
“I am very convinced that this team will get points from anywhere to achieve survival because nothing else comes into my head”, assured the Catalan, pointing out that every game played in the First Division “is a gift for the fans and the players and we have to fight to the death to get it off the ground”.
