Alonso will start 10th: “We will finish with a good taste in our mouths”

Date:

Fernando Alonso was unable to sign the final Alpine classification he would have liked. “It has not turned out a good time trial” pointed out the Oviedo native, who was on the brink of the cliff throughout Q2. The Spaniard moved into Q2 in 15th position and was just 28 thousandths off the cut-off time to break into the top 10 in Q3. However, he didn’t worry about it. “It’s fine”, he said on the radio when he was told he was 11th. He knew he was gaining position because of the 3 penalty spots that Ricciardo came from. The Brazilian has been dragged and from that Top-10 he can try to gain some positions in the race through strategy, using the hard tire with which he has shown great speed in previous appointments.

“In Q1 we went to the limit, and in Q2 by a few thousand (28 specifically), but hey, that’s what we have today, let’s see if we can come back tomorrow,” said the man from Oviedo, without losing his self smile and hope on his face. at this Sunday’s appointment, his last Alpine dance before starting his new Aston Martin project.

“We will start in tenth because Ricciardo from Brazil has 3 penalty positions, so we are already in the points. We will try to make a good strategy. We have two hard tires, while the others only have, so I think finishing 7th and 8th tomorrow is still the goal and to finish with a good taste in the mouth”, he concluded at the front of DAZN F1 microphones.
