Caja Rural Central (CRC) has sponsored the conference on sciences applied to tennis in the UCAM under the motto ‘From the beginning to the elite, always in good company’. Ginés Argiles, Director of the CRC Murcia area, came on behalf of the entity and stated that “CRC always supports initiatives in the sports sector, it is in our DNA, so we are very happy to be here today and listen to great professionals such as to Juan José López, traumatologist and doctor of the tennis player Carlos Alcaraz or to Ángel Ruiz Cotorro, head of the Medical Service of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation».

Professionals from the fields of psychology, nutrition, podiatry, physical preparation, physiotherapy, traumatology and even sensor chemistry were some of the key players of the conference. For Lourdes Meroño, Dean of UCAM’s Faculty of Sports, this conference serves to “better understand a sport as complex as tennis, in which factors as diverse as physiology, biomechanics, psychology or nutrition come into play. And apply all the lessons we get in every field.

More specifically, in the field of medicine applied to tennis, Ángel Ruiz Cotorro has assessed the risks of injuries in young tennis players and their consequences for the future, highlighting that “there is a very high percentage of injuries between 12 and 16 years old. , some of them that can determine his sports career. We found tendon, spine, hip and overuse injuries”.

The most technological part of the sector was also discussed. María Cuartero, extraordinary professor of sensor chemistry at UCAM, has commented and exposed the possibilities that can be applied to top sports in her field, with the development of sensors in a device adapted to an application to digitize sports activity «since sweat offers real-time and continuous information. For example, changes in markers or biomarkers are monitored, such as hydration, glucose or lactate.

With this partnership, CRC will conclude its sponsorship strategy in 2022 and will continue its work in support of the professional and amateur sports sector in 2023.
