The Chilean Paul Quintanilla (Honda) was positive about his second place in the first stage of the Dakar 2023 before learning of a penalty that relegated him from second position to seventh for speed.
“I’m happy. It was a fairly tough stage with some rocky sections, trialera and enduro type, that were mixed with fast valleys. Then, after the first neutralization, we entered more into the open desert, with some dunes, changes of direction, something faster, more rally style”, he told about the first stage, with a special 367 kilometers.
Quintanilla explained that “It’s always important to do the first day without major mistakeswithout falling and getting stronger after the competition”, although he received a two-minute penalty.
“I think I did well, so I’m happy with the first half,” said the Valparaíso driver, who turned 36 last month.
