“The new Super League is disgusting; no thanks”

Date:

The proposal of the new European super league, which includes important changes and whose decalogue was published yesterday in various media, is receiving the first criticisms. It has already caused controversy when the idea of its creation appeared, almost two years ago, with most clubs against it despite the fact that they were in favor from the beginning.

Basically it will be an open competition where sporting merit will prevail, between 68 and 80 clubs will participate and all will ensure they play at least 14 games. “In October we started an open dialogue on the future of European club football. Most of the 50 we spoke to think that European football is under threat. It’s time for a change,” said Bernd Reichart, CEO of A22 Sportmanagement and driving competition company.

The announcement was not well received by the football world. La Liga president Javier Tebas called the Super League “the wolf disguised as a grandmother to try to deceive European football”. Criticism also came from other countries. Swedish elite football and its general secretary, Mats EnquistThey are also against it. “It is disgusting. We will oppose it and I hope that others will do with us. A football controlled by “a lot of money, corporations, sheikhs and oligarchs. Thanks anyway”.

Enquist explained: “There is a sports system in Sweden and Europe that is based on the fundamentals and values that sport itself has built. This will be a major blow against what sport has built up over the centuries. If successful the Super League , a large part of the clubs’ income is needed. I hope that the position of UEFA and FIFA is also clear”, he told ‘Expressen’.
