The Acciona Sainz team, led by Laia Sanz and the Swede Mattia Ekstrom, finished in second position in the first round of the Extreme E championship held in Neom (Saudi Arabia).
Victory first went to the Rosberg X Racing team of Swedish drivers Mikaela Ahlin and Johan Kristoffersson, but a speeding penalty in a slow zone relegated them to third place.
Victory went to the Veloce Rancing team of Australia’s Molly Taylor and Sweden’s Kevin Hansenwhile Sanz and Ekstrom, who finished third at the finish line, moved up to second position.
Carlos Sainz did not participate for the first time as a result of a vertebrae injury he suffered in the final round of the Dakar rallyalthough he was present in Saudi Arabia at the inaugural event helping to direct the team.
The next round of the championship is on May 13 and 14 in Scotland.
