Chelsea are already considering January reinforcements

Date:

Chelsea are already planning their signings for the next winter market, despite spending more than 400 million in the summer, the coach said today Mauricio Pochettino.

Asked at a press conference about plans for January, when the market reopens, Pochettino recalled some of the injuries the club had suffered and assured they were already focused on possible additions.

“I think the football we play is very dynamic, we have to work now on the recovery of some players, like Nkunku, to score more goals and be more stable, but yes, of course, we started working in January,” said the Argentine coach.

Chelsea spent more than 450 million this summer on signings such as Nkunku, injured since the preseason, Moisés Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jacksonamong many others, and in total accumulated more than 1,000 million euros spent since the arrival of the American magnate Todd Boehly at the head of the club in spring 2022.

Despite the cost, Chelsea fell short of expectations and failed to qualify for European competitions last season. At the start of this season they managed five points out of a possible 18 and scored just five goals in six Premier League games. In the League Cup they performed and were in the round of 16 after defeating Wimbledon and Brighton.
