A cheap but healthy snack for children! Rudi Klappacher offers this in his bakeries in the Salzburg municipalities of Grödig and Großgmain for 1.50 euros. The “Nehammer Weckerl” and a hot pizza stick are a response to the Chancellor’s controversial video.
“We offer the ‘Nehammer-Weckerl’ and a hot pizza stick for 1.50 euros for a week,” says Rudi Klappacher. The baker from Grödig, but also the opposition, Caritas and the union, responded promptly to the Nehammer video published on Thursday. In it, the Chancellor suggests that families who are in danger of ending up in poverty buy a hot hamburger for their children at McDonald’s for 1.40 euros.
“I had to watch the video twice,” Klappacher says. “At first I thought it was an AI (Note: Artificial Intelligence)“, adds the 46-year-old baker. But when the father of the family was sure that the controversial statement really came from the Chancellor, he came up with the idea of the ‘Nehammer Weckerl’: a whole wheat spelled roll with ham, cheese, peppers and tomatoes.
“I don’t want to offend anyone, but I had to respond to such a report,” he says. Said and done. That same day, Klappacher organized the ingredients, made an advertising poster with the promotion and started the cheap but healthy offer for children on Friday morning.
Fundraising would be possible for the Grödiger
But the bakery also sells the “Nehammer-Weckerl” and the pizza sticks to adults. “If someone wants it, he can of course buy it,” says Klappacher, laughing. “We are also looking at whether we can subsequently donate the money to the campaign,” says Klappacher. But the baker in Grödig was not the only one to respond to the video.
Former politician Sepp Schellhorn also had his say on his Instagram page and showed parents a healthy, warm alternative in a video: Gnocchi with tomato sauce can be prepared at home for only 71 cents.
