The ‘Vini Jr.’ law was adopted in Brazil to terminate parties in cases of racism

According to the text, prepared by the regional representative of the Workers’ Party (PT, center-left), Cida Ramos, the goal is to transform the stadiums “into a welcoming space for the entire sports community.”

After this “The dissemination and implementation of educational campaigns” will be mandatory in stadiums and sports centers of Paraíba against racism during breaks and before sporting events.

Also, it will be optional to end the meeting in the case of “racist behavior” committed “together by a group of people” or if there is a repetition of said behavior, punishable by imprisonment in Penal Code Brazilian.

The anti-racist protocol also includes that “any citizen may inform any authority present in the stadium of racist behavior of which they are aware.”

From there, the authority must communicate what happened to the event organizers or the field delegate and, then, report the episode to public ministry and report to the police station.

On the field, the person responsible for the event will ask the referee for his “mandatory interruption” as long as necessary and as soon as “the recognized racist attitudes do not stop.”

If there is a replay, “the sporting event organizer or field delegate may inform the referee of the decision to use the option to end the match.”

The law is baptized as ‘Vini Jr’ was inspired by the incident that the Madrid winger suffered on May 21 at Mestallawhere he received racist insults from groups of Valencia fans and ended up getting sent off in a Spanish League match.

That case caused quite a stir Brazil, where even President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed solidarity with the former player of Flamengo.
