Jon Rahm: “I’m still a member of the PGA Tour”

Date:

Jon Rahmchampion of US Open (2021) and the August Masters (2023), will seek this week his third title of grand slam within PGA Championshipthe second ‘big’ of the year to be held from Thursday to Sunday in Valhalla Golf Club of Louisville (Kentucky, USA). Rahm will share the route the first two days with the Americans Rickie Fowler and Cameron Young.

The Basque golfer thus returned to a tournament on the American PGA circuit. The Grand Slams eat separately and Rahm has free play despite his famous signing a few months ago for LIV Golfthe controversial and millionaire Saudi Super League where the Basque has yet to win any title.

There is a desire for both circuits to reach a coexistence agreement, but so far the negotiations have not resulted in a firm agreement. In this context, questions about the subject are repeated in almost all of his press conferences.

“You say the opposite, but I am still a member of PGA Tour“Rahm told reporters when asked how he sees the recent turmoil on the PGA Tour board now that he’s a member of the LIV. “Whether it’s suspended or not, I still want to support the PGA Tour and I think it’s an important difference to the maker,” said the Spanish player.

“I don’t know what is happening now. I haven’t really spoken enough to know what’s going on with the board and obviously people will not be willing to share that information with me because I’m not anymore part of those discussions. I’ve said what I’ve said all along: I hope we can reach a resolution and the resolution is beneficial for everyone,” Rahm said.

Rahm was also asked why it was important to continue representing himself as a member of the PGA Tour despite the suspension.

“I said again, whatever I can, I would like to support them,” Rahm said without irony. “So even though I play full-time at LIV Golf, as I’ve said many times, if I was allowed, I played a few tournaments on the PGA Tour earlier in the year. The PGA Tour has given me so much that I will not side with it, throw it away and oppose it,” Rahm insisted.

Tiger Woods, who was also present at the PGA Championship, offered more light on how negotiations are going with LIV Golf. The former world number 1 is the director of the PGA Tour board trying to reconcile with Saudi Investment Fund (PIF).

“We’re working on negotiations. It’s something that’s ongoing, it’s fluid, it’s changing every day. We’re taking steps and they may not be giant steps, but we’re taking steps, ” said Woods, who also sounds like the next captain of the United States team Ryder Cup.

“We are still talking, there is no confirmation yet, we’re still working on what would look like. Also, whether I have time or not, I need to feel that I can give all the time I deserve,” he added. Tiger.
