Thomas Bach’s future, up in the air until after the Paris Games

Date:

The president of the IOC, the German Thomas Bachhe left his question in the air again continuing in office from 2025when what his second and, according to the current rules, the last term will expire.

“The IOC Ethics Commission does not allow me to speak about my personal situation before the end of the Paris Games, at least”he said in a press conference at the end of the meeting of Executive Commission in Lausanne (Switzerland), when asked about it.

Bach explains that the IOC Legal Commission did not propose a change to the Olympic Charter because “only makes sense” If Bach himself agreed “that movement”.

“But since I am under instructions from the Ethics Commission,” He said, and he could not make a statement yet, the rules remain current, he explained.

But he added: “If I then gave my approval, such a vote could very easily be carried out by post by the IOC members.”

It was Bach elected chairman of the Committee in 2013. According to the Olympic Charter, Presidents serve a first term of eight years (2021) and, if approved by the assembly, a second and final term of four (2025), as happened in German. Elections should be held next year.

But in the last Session of the organization, in October 2023 in Bombay, Some IOC members have asked for the rules to be changed to allow Bach to continuewho was excited about this support but did not make a categorical statement on the matter.
