The British Emma Raducanu added the first point of the series against Slovakia in the semi-finals of Billie Jean King Cup by going over Victoria Hruncakova in two sets (6-4 and 6-4), and place Great Britain one step away from the final.
While Italy awaits a title-match rival after defeating Poland on Monday, the first step was taken on Tuesday by Great Britain, who recorded a 1-0 win over Slovakia thanks to the victory of the world number 58.
Raducanu, number two in his country in this Billie Jean, started the first set like a shot. She reached a convincing 5-1, but stopped stepping on the accelerator against a combative Hruncakova, who participated in the elimination of the United States and Australia in previous rounds.
The Slovakian fought back to save himself and even got to 5-4, but in the tenth game the English racket hit the winners again and won the first set 6-4.
Viktoria Hruncakova started in that role of the non-favourite, as she currently occupies the 238th place in the circuit, but she once again showed that she is one of the pleasant surprises of this tennis world championship.
However, it was not enough to be superior to Raducanu, which was a guarantee for his selection. They also won the second set 6-4 in over an hour and a half of play.
In the second point, the number one of Great Britain and Slovakia, the British and number 24 in the world, Katie Boulter, will play against Slovakian Rebecca Sramkova, in great form in this tournament that will be held in Malaga.
