Timo Werner, back to Leipzig

Date:

Unless it is official, Timo Werner left Chelsea and returned to Leipzig. According to Fabrizio Romano, a journalist specializing in transfers, the German international striker returned to his former club as a transferred player and not on loan.

Both Leipzig and Chelsea are finalizing the documents to sign and thus complete the operation. The final details were discussed, but an agreement had already been reached. A medical examination is scheduled for Tuesday.

Werner, 26 years old and capped 53 times by Germany (24 goals scored for his national team), will thus take the opposite path to the one he took in 2020, when He left Leipzig to join Chelsea, who paid 53 million euros for the attacker. Now the Red Bull Arena club will take him back for around 30 million, according to German media.

Timo Werner will not succeed at Chelsea. In 89 games played with the ‘blue’ team shirt, the German striker scored 23 goals and provided 17 assists. Werner had other offers, but he decided to return to Leipzig, the club where he succeeded and with whom he signed a contract a month ago.

Although he didn’t live up to Chelsea’s or his own expectations when Werner signed in 2020the attacker won the Champions League, European Super Cup and Club World Cup with the Stamford Bridge team.
