Last Christmas, a 19-year-old invaded the grounds of Windsor Castle in London with plans to attack and, according to his own statement, kill Queen Elizabeth II. The man who was arrested at the time is now on trial. Charges: treason, possession of weapons and death threats.
The now 20-year-old suspect has to answer to a court in London. According to the charges, he told a guard, “I’m here to kill the Queen.” The defendant attended the trial from a high-security psychiatric facility. He is charged with carrying a firearm “with the intent to offend or disturb Her Majesty”.
Plea to follow
He has not yet had to confess whether he is guilty or not. He is due to appear in court in person on September 14. The charges are as follows: treason (“Treason Act”), death threats and possession of an assault weapon. If found guilty of treason, he faces up to seven years in prison.
Failed Claims
On December 25, despite strict security measures, the Briton arrived on the grounds of the castle where the Queen was. He would have made it within 500 meters of the Queen’s private quarters. But attempts had already been made to get in touch with the British royal family: he wanted to become part of the police department of the British Ministry of Defence. He also applied as a guard to the Grenadier Guards – in vain.
avenge discrimination
A few days after the assassination attempt, British media published a video in which the suspect himself probably announced that he wanted to kill the Queen. This is an act of revenge to take revenge on all those who have been murdered, humiliated or discriminated against because of their origin. He also avenges the dead in the 1919 Amritsar massacre. British colonial troops fired on protesters in the Indian city of Amritsar at the time, killing hundreds. The masked man in the video claims to be an Indian Sikh himself.
