An aggressive man revolted in Oberpullendorf (Burgenland) on Sunday night. When an alarmed patrol officer tried to take action against the rowdy, he was seriously injured.
Wild scenes played out on the main square in Oberpullendorf last weekend. On Sunday, minutes after 1 a.m., an obviously inebriated man blows off steam in the open street. According to eyewitnesses, the initially unknown person would have thrown an ashtray through the air. A parked car and a window were smashed during the eruption. “The drunk was screaming at the top of his lungs, you could hear him crying and sobbing and you could see him waving his hands like hell,” said one resident.
Man got angrier
The alarmed patrol officers were brutally insulted when they appeared in the main square. All attempts to calm the rioters failed. Instead of coming to his senses, the rowdy one got even angrier. He completely lost his nerve when the uniformed men tried to arrest him.
Wound several centimeters long
The situation escalated and the enraged man bit a police officer in the torso. The attacker inflicted a wound of several centimeters on the officer. The police officer was taken to hospital for examination. “The group inspector was in severe pain, he had to stop his shift abruptly and go to home care,” said a hospital doctor.
The suspect was a man from Oberpullendorf. By order of the Eisenstadt public prosecutor’s office, he has been behind bars in prison since the incident.
