“Many delays” – Stitch 4: Vaccination campaign in Italy is a flop

Date:

Italy is experiencing significant delays in administering the fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. The Italian health foundation Gimbe criticized this on Thursday. “The administration of the fourth vaccination has been greatly delayed,” said the Foundation in connection with the second booster shot that can be given to Italians over 60 years of age.

So far, only 2.18 million fourth doses of vaccine have been administered. This corresponds to a decrease of 12.4 percent compared to previous vaccination campaigns.

About 14.3 million of the over-60s and the sick targeted by the fourth dose have not yet been vaccinated, the foundation lamented.

“Only marginal benefit for young people”
The president of the Superior Health Council (CSS), Franco Locatelli, recently said that the benefit of the fourth vaccination for young people was only “marginal”. In contrast, the fourth vaccination significantly increases protection in the elderly.
