An inexperienced German (23) was rescued on Thursday from the via ferrata of the Drachenwand in Upper Austria. She was completely exhausted.
“She was in very bad shape. No one has ever been so exhausted,” says Andreas Widlroither, head of operations at the Mondseerland mountain rescue service. On Thursday around 2 p.m., a 23-year-old German left Hanover with her boyfriend (26). They chose the Drachenwand via ferrata as their trek.
“You totally underestimated the climb, just read the Google reviews on the internet. They were also very poorly equipped. They were wearing gym mats with almost no profile, no helmets and no headlights,” Widlroither shakes his head.
climber helped
An observant climber (42) from Neumarkt am Wallersee had already noticed the clumsy couple during the ascent. When he ran into the two again on the descent, he helped them up the last few meters and called 911 there.
Woman had to go to hospital
The mountain rescue team drove the woman down a forest trail into the valley. “She was supported by two mountain rescuers. In the valley her condition continued to deteriorate and she had to go to the hospital. She said she hardly ever plays sports,” says the head of operations.
And on the Jainzenberg in Bad Ischl, the help of mountain rescuers was also needed on Wednesday. Two local residents got lost in the dark and one complained of severe foot pain.
