German airport operator Fraport cancels individual flights due to staff shortages. Domestic feeder flights are especially affected and guests have to be rebooked on the train.
“We are trying to keep the effects as low as possible,” a Lufthansa spokeswoman said on Thursday. In addition to staff shortages, the company is currently struggling with the consequences of the corona pandemic and peaks in demand. That is why various measures would now be taken, the airport operator reported on Twitter on Wednesday. This also includes looking for new employees.
Longer waiting times
Delays are to be expected until they are found and start their service. These mainly concern the security checks and baggage claim upon return. “Extreme traffic peaks will present us with a major operational challenge, especially in the late morning and early afternoon,” said Fraport Manager Alexander Laukenmann recently.
In many federal states, including Hesse, Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia, the Easter holidays start at the end of the week. Fraport expects up to 170,000 travelers per day during this period. Every day about 1,100 planes take off and land in Frankfurt.
