British secret services estimates that the lack of morale among Russian troops in Ukraine may also be due to poor wages. In addition to the high number of casualties and increasing combat fatigue, salary is one of the biggest abuses, according to a short report from the British Ministry of Defense on Sunday.
The wages of Russian soldiers usually consist of a basic salary, which is supplemented according to a complex system with various allowances and bonuses. According to the British, there are likely to be major problems with the payment of these bonuses in Ukraine.
There is also a lack of suitable weapons
This is presumably due to an inefficient military bureaucracy, the unclear legal status of the “military operation” – as Russia calls its war of aggression in Ukraine – and, to some extent, corruption among the commanders.
According to the secret services, there are also problems with the provision of suitable uniforms, weapons and other necessities. This also contributes to brittle morale in the troops.
Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine in late February, the British government has regularly published intelligence on progress. Moscow accuses London of a targeted disinformation campaign.
