Raid, 4 arrests – 700 kilos of heroin found in port of Hamburg

Date:

In connection with investigations by the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), a sea container containing 700 kilograms of heroin was found in the port of Hamburg at the end of August. This is “the largest amount of this drug ever seized in Germany,” the BKA said Friday.

During searches of ten apartments and business premises in and around Dresden, in the Chemnitz area, in Hamburg and in the Netherlands, documents, laptops, data carriers, smartphones as well as vehicles and assets have been secured since Friday evening.

Four people arrested in raid
Four suspects have been arrested in Dresden, Spain and the Netherlands and another man has been provisionally arrested in Dresden. The investigation, which the public prosecutor’s office in Dresden is conducting in conjunction with the Federal Criminal Police Office, concerns the suspicion that the gang is importing large amounts of narcotics.

Heroin smuggled from Iran
The men are said to have smuggled large amounts of heroin from Iran to Germany to further distribute it throughout Europe – a key hub is said to be in the greater Dresden region.
