A salvaged treasure near Liebenfels Castle brought it to light – Britain’s King Charles has a Carinthian ancestor.
It all started when a significant treasure trove of coins was discovered near Liebenfels Castle. In the search for the origin, the family relationships also came to light.
Lord of the castle found ancestors
Together with experts from Viennese numismatics, lord of the castle Dietmar Messner, himself an enthusiastic historian, came across Konrad Lochner von Liebenfels, a lord of the 15th-century castle. His descendants meander through several mansions to Philip Mountbatten of Greece and Denmark, Prince Charles’ father. The future British regent can now proudly refer to a Carinthian great-grandfather who goes back 14 generations.
In any case, King Charles is virtually invited for a tour of his castle. Liebenfels can soon be experienced in multimedia form and can be walked digitally with VR glasses. The program will be online soon – at Windsor Castle.
