“We will do everything for it” – Putin wants to “end the war as soon as possible”

Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, said he wants to end the “Ukraine conflict” as soon as possible. The Kremlin chief told Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday at a Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Uzbekistan. Earlier, Modi had reiterated his reluctance to enter Moscow’s war against Ukraine.

“Today is not an era of war,” Modi said while meeting with Putin on the sidelines of an SCO summit in the Uzbek city of Samarkand, at the same time stressing the desire for greater cooperation between India and Russia. According to the Indian Prime Minister, the focus should rather be on issues such as food, fertilizer and fuel safety.

Putin promises: ‘We will do everything for it’
“I know your position on the conflict in Ukraine and your concerns, which you constantly express,” Putin said, adding: “We are doing everything we can to end this as soon as possible.” Kremlin leader that he is not interested in a negotiated solution.

Russia invaded Ukraine in February. India, on the other hand, which has close trade ties with Russia, takes a neutral stance on the war and, for example, does not support Western sanctions.

At the same time, the country promotes conflict resolution through dialogue. Recently, India bought relatively cheap oil from Russia. India also relies heavily on Russia for military equipment and spare parts.
