The next wave of illegal immigrants is spilling over to Burgenland. The authorities are now reporting a new record. In addition, more than 47,000 migrants have been reported so far this year.
The influx of refugees never stops: the latest peak, as reported, was reached with 2,811 arrests in the week of September 5-11. But as early as the following week, police and military faced even greater challenges in their work in the course of increasing migration.
More than 3000 attacks
In these seven days, the number of illegal border crossings shot up again. “For the first time, the number of 3,000 detentions was clearly exceeded,” says the military leadership.
Exactly 3175 refugees were registered – 364 more than the week before. The breakdown: 464 arrests were documented on Monday, 335 on Tuesday, 350 on Wednesday, 550 on Thursday, 457 on Friday, 488 on Saturday and 531 on Sunday. Most refugees come from countries in the Middle East, such as Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.
Numbers more than doubled
The current development is fully reflected in the balance sheet. More than 47,000 migrants have already been registered in Burgenland this year. By comparison, 19,938 refugees were admitted in the whole of 2021, significantly less than half.
It started yesterday, Monday, early in the morning with large-scale attacks. At around 6 a.m., the army and police intervened as 43 immigrants marched towards Deutschkreutz. The 18 Afghans, 16 Pakistanis, four Indians, three Tunisians and two Moroccans applied for asylum. Shortly afterwards, nine Afghans were detained in Nikitsch and more than 20 migrants were found on the sports field in Frankenau.
