Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a partial mobilization of the armed forces. He made this decision at the suggestion of the Defense Ministry and signed the decree, the Kremlin chief said on Wednesday.
Partial mobilization will begin on Wednesday, Putin said. “We will use all means to defend our people,” the Russian president said. “The West wants to destroy our country. The West did not want peace between Ukraine and Russia.” He said “to the West: we have a lot of weapons to answer. It’s not a bluff,” Putin said.
Scholz accuses Putin of ‘blatant imperialism’” before
On Tuesday evening, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz accused Russia of “blatant imperialism” in front of the United Nations and promised Ukraine further aid, including arms deliveries. “Putin will only give up his war and his imperial ambitions if he realizes he cannot win this war,” Scholz told the UN General Assembly in New York. “He is not only destroying Ukraine, he is also ruining his own country.”
Therefore, no Russian “dictated peace” will be accepted — and no mock referendums, Scholz stressed. He alluded to the votes planned by pro-Kremlin separatists in several Ukrainian regions, which were announced on Tuesday.
