300,000 reservists will be called up, 1% of Russian civilians with military experience who could be mobilized. Surrender or desertion without justification can lead to prison terms of up to ten years.
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday announced a partial mobilization to, as he said, protect the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and ensure the security of the citizens of the occupied Ukrainian territories.
These are the key aspects of the measure issued by Putin:
– The Army russian has more than two million menhalf of which are technical and administrative staff.
– Upon partial mobilization, they are summoned 300,000 reservists.
– The Defense Minister, Sergei Shoigú, has in 25 million the number of Russians with military experience who could be mobilized. Partial mobilization affects 1% of the total. Among the mobilized will be specialists working in state-owned enterprises.

– The State Duma or House of Representatives approved amendments to the Criminal Code on Tuesday, which prison terms for soldiers for surrender and desertion without justification are increased to ten yearsin case of mobilization or martial law.
– Failure to follow direct orders from a superior to participate in military or combat actions can also be punished with up to ten years in prison.
– Mobilized men are only allowed to leave the service for health reasons, if they have reached the maximum age to serve in the army, or if a civil court orders their imprisonment.

– The peace movement Vesná (Spring) has a national protest against mobilizationto avoid sending fathers, brothers and husbands to the “meat grinder of war”.
– The Russian president in March banned the sending to the front of young Russians who were doing military service.
– According to human rights groups, the army has deployed thousands of recruits in military units near the Ukrainian border in recent weeks.
