The United States announces a new weapons package worth 1,130 million euros to strengthen the Kiev army in the medium and long term

While the West denies the legitimacy of the “false referendums” held in the four occupied regions of Ukraine (Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhya) for their annexation to Russia, words are not enough for Kiev. Volodímir Zelensky’s government is clear that only weapons can get the Kremlin out of its territory, and he made it known to his allies again this Wednesday.

“Ukraine calls on the EU, NATO and the G7 to immediately and significantly increase their pressure on Russia, including imposing new sanctions and significantly increasing military aid,” Ukraine’s foreign ministry said after the pro-Russian authorities had declared victory in the talks. in the occupied territories. In his statement, he asked for the weapons he would need: “Tanks, fighters, armored vehicles, long-range artillery, anti-aircraft and anti-missile equipment.”

The first step was taken by the United States, which today announced a new package of weapons and supplies worth USD 1,100 million (about EUR 1,130 million) to strengthen the Kiev military in the medium and long term. According to a statement from the US Department of Defense, orders from national military suppliers include Himar’s missile systems and ammunition, anti-drone systems, radars and armored vehicles.

Brussels, for its part, also announced a support of 500 million euros, but not for the military field. In this case, the Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, explained that the amount would be used to support housing, education and food security in Ukraine.
