During entrance exam – 19 killed in attack on education institute in Kabul

Date:

Afghan police say at least 19 people have been killed in a suicide attack on an educational institution in Kabul. 27 others were injured in Friday’s attack. The attack was committed during an entrance exam.

It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the crime.

The institute is located in a part of the Afghan capital populated mainly by members of the Hazara ethnic minority who have repeatedly been targeted by the radical Islamic militia “Islamic State” (IS).

Taliban halted Afghan women’s solidarity demonstration for Iranian women
Meanwhile, Taliban security forces forcibly broke up an Afghan women’s demonstration in solidarity with Iran’s protests in Kabul on Thursday. As AFP journalists report, about 25 women in front of the Iranian embassy shouted the slogan “Women, live, freedom” that was also used during the protests there and carried banners with the phrases “Iran has risen, now it’s our turn” and ” No to the dictatorship”.

After the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in August 2021, they promised a more moderate approach than during their rule from 1996 to 2001. Since then, however, the rights of women and girls, in particular, have been severely curtailed. Almost everywhere in the country, girls and young women are not allowed to attend secondary schools.
