The Krško nuclear power plant, which is controversial in Austria, has not been producing electricity since Saturday, October 1. Maintenance work is the reason for this.
Due to planned overhaul work, which is expected to cost around one hundred million euros, the Krško nuclear power plant will be out of operation until November 2. Not only will 56 fuel elements be replaced, but also preventive maintenance of technological equipment, inspection of the state of technological structures and control of pressure barriers are on the agenda.
Power supply protected
As explained at a press conference, the 50 percent co-owner of the Krško nuclear power plant “Hrvatska elektroprivreda (HEP)” will be responsible for the power supply until the maintenance work is completed. Sufficient electricity is provided. The next major overhaul of the nuclear power plant would not take place until 2024 when all requirements have been met to start with the expansion of the nuclear power plant.
