Gazprom confirms pressure has stabilized in damaged gas lines

Date:

Swedish authorities claim that the first leak from the Nord Stream “is no longer visible”, but the second “has increased slightly”

“The pressure in the Nord Stream pipeline has stabilized and the leaks have stopped.” That said the Russian gas company Gazprom on Monday, after the incidents last week that much of the international community blamed Moscow. The statement emphasized that the company is specifically working to reduce pressure on line B of the Nord Stream 2, “so it must reduce the flow of natural gas” into the pipeline, which “will allow safe investigation of the integrity of the line and potential environmental risks.” .

The information was also confirmed by the Swedish Coast Guard by confirming that the largest gas leak that surfaced last week “is no longer visible on the surface” of the Baltic Sea. However, the level of the second leak has “risen slightly,” says a report from the Scandinavian authorities.

In this way, the alarm continues with the alleged sabotage that led to four leaks, two of which were in Sweden’s exclusive economic zone. The main one shows no bubbles on the sea surface, while the smaller one is already about 30 meters in diameter. Maritime authorities have issued a navigation warning for the area. It is not known at this time when the breakouts will end, although the experts initially thought it would end last Sunday.

Germany, for its part, is considering the possibility of opening a criminal investigation into the alleged sabotage. “It is possible that a criminal offense has been committed for which the federal prosecutor could take charge,” Justice Minister Marco Buschmann warned. If the suspicion is confirmed that someone had something to do with the incident, “the aim would be to catch the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” Buschmann explains. Sabotage carries a prison sentence of up to five years or a fine under the German penal code.
