A little noise, a little fire and the heating is done: DIY tealight ovens are very popular right now. They are designed to heat the house – and at minimal cost. Tempting with the exploding energy and heating costs! But is the hype about the clay jetty justified? We asked “Krone” physicist Werner Gruber to try it on himself. Only this can be revealed for now: it was hot.
Two clay flower pots glued together with a threaded rod, four tea lights in the bottom and the mini oven advertised in social media as an economical heating variant is ready. Videos, for example on “YouTube”, want to prove the effect: a young woman with well-filed, red-painted fingernails lights the candles – and lo and behold, her thermometer shows how the degrees rise.
