A gang of burglars broke into shops and cut open safes. Detectives from Lower Austria tracked down the criminals. Four suspects are being held in Krems-Stein prison.
In February, unknown perpetrators in Weitra in the Waldviertel brutally broke into a supermarket by breaking open the front door. Then they tried to cut open the ATM that was there, but were startled by a passer-by and fled without taking anything with them.
After this coup, specialists from the National Criminal Investigation Department took over the investigation – and came across several similar cases in other federal states. Two Romanians (27 and 34) were quickly identified as suspects. And in April, the younger man and two compatriots (42 and 44) were arrested and arrested after a burglary involving a safe opening in Gaweinstal in the Weinviertel. The 34-year-old suspect has now also been arrested in Germany.
170,000 euros damage
The “tank crackers” are charged with 20 burglaries at shops and companies and at a construction site in the districts of Gmünd, Horn and Mistelbach, as well as in Burgenland, Upper Austria and Styria. Damage: 170,000 euros.
