An affected person reports from the Lviv area. The city in western Ukraine is again exposed to rocket attacks, the population is holding out in shelters.
When the “Krone” was in Ukraine at the beginning of the war, it was Uliana Scherchenko who translated for us. Now she is in the basement of her house in a Ukrainian village near Lemberg. Rockets have been flying since Monday morning, explosions are shaking the area.
She is alone with her sister, her family and her boyfriend are scattered in Ukraine, currently out of reach of her. The telephone connection is bad, she does not know how her family is doing. She focuses on her sister and tries to calm her down: the alarms, rockets and explosions have shocked her. She is only ten years old.
“It’s like February 24th again”
It has been quiet in Lviv for the past few weeks, life has taken its course, people have gone to work and university. “Now we are in the shelter praying and hoping it will be over soon.” It is reminiscent of the early days of the war. “It’s like February 24th again,” says Uliana. A date burned in.
Can one get used to the reporting, can one get used to the war? When you think of the ten-year-old girl in the basement, there can only be one answer: “It’s important that the world knows what Russia is doing,” says Uliana. “People die here.”
