The closure of the longest highway tunnel in Vienna, the Kaisermühlentunnel on the Donauuferautobahn (A22), was lifted early on Sunday morning. It was originally announced until 4pm.
However, according to information from the ÖAMTC, the work was completed earlier. The control system in the tunnel has been renewed, which is why it will be closed from last Friday evening and this weekend. This led to long traffic jams and delays on the diversion routes.
Handelskai and Kaisermühlen
The Handelskai and Kaisermühlen areas were particularly affected. During the total shutdown, ASFINAG employees installed new high-tech security software and hardware. A total of 1.3 million euros has been invested in this.
