Terrible suspicion in Lower Austria: A possible violent crime is being investigated in Litschau (district Gmünd). After an 87-year-old was run over by a car and died on Friday afternoon, her husband, 73, was arrested and taken to Krems prison, police said on Monday. There is a suspicion of murder.
A passer-by started the rescue chain around 1:45 p.m. Friday after hearing cries for help. The 87-year-old was trapped under a car and all help came too late for the victim. The emergency doctor could only determine the death of the woman. According to police, the 87-year-old had apparently previously walked the dog not far from her home address. The animal showed no injuries.
73 year old drunk
The license plate holder of the car and the victim’s husband were behind the car in the lane. He suffered a minor head injury and was transported to Gmünd State Hospital. The 73-year-old was intoxicated, police said. During an interrogation on Saturday, he had not confessed the suspicion of murder.
ordered autopsy
The public prosecutor’s office in Krems ordered the autopsy of the body, the seizure of the car and the clothing of the suspect and the victim. An investigation into the suspect’s and victim’s surroundings is still ongoing. Evaluations of the forensic examination of the car are currently being conducted, and further findings are also expected from an autopsy, said police spokeswoman Manuela Weinkirn.
