Two humanitarian aid workers from Caritas International have been killed in Mariupol, Ukraine. The two Ukrainian workers and one person seeking help were killed in a rocket attack on a Caritas building, the German foreign aid organization Caritas said Monday. The Ukrainian armed forces announced on Monday that they were preparing for the “final battle” around Mariupol – the ammunition was running out.
“The deaths of civilians and humanitarian workers who have worked unconditionally for others leaves us speechless,” said Oliver Müller, head of Caritas International.
1000 Caritas employees and volunteers in action
According to the information, aid continues despite the dangers, even in ravaged cities like Kramatorsk, Zaporizhzhya and Kiev. The focus of the aid is on the care of the elderly, the sick and children, who have been particularly hard hit by the consequences of the war. About 1000 Caritas employees and many volunteers are currently working in Ukraine across the country.
